Diving & Snorkeling
Best: October - March
Water temperatures reach 27-29°C with visibility up to 30 metres. Mnemba Atoll and Chumbe Island offer world-class coral reefs. Green turtles are common year-round.
Kitesurfing
Best: June - September & December - March
Paje Beach on the east coast is Zanzibar’s kitesurfing capital, with consistent trade winds (kaskazi and kusi) during these periods. Multiple kite schools operate on the beach.
Whale Shark Encounters
Best: October - March (peak: Oct - Dec)
Whale sharks congregate off the south coast near Kizimkazi and around Mafia Island. Responsible operators limit group sizes for ethical encounters.
Spice Tours & Culture
Best: Year-round
Stone Town and spice plantations can be visited any time. The dry season (Jun-Oct) is most comfortable for walking tours. Zanzibar International Film Festival runs in July.

Zanzibar hotel rates vary significantly by season. Peak season (July-August, December-January) commands the highest prices — often 40-60% more than low season.
